These were the words of a Judge at Portsmouth Crown Court when sentencing Stephanie Dealey and Sager Salem for dangerous driving.
The pair were seen on CCTV racing each other through rush hour traffic in April last year, doing double the 30mph speed limit. It came to a scary end when Dealey lost control of her vehicle and hit the central reservation, causing her car to flip and landed on top of a car going in the opposite direction as well as damaging two more.
Salem drove off leaving the scene of devastation behind him.
Swain & Co.’s specialist personal injury solicitors are surprised that no one was seriously injured, although the person driving the car that was crushed by Dealey’s suffered back pain, cuts and bruises.
Dealey pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and received an eight month jail sentence suspended for two years. Salem was convicted after trial and sentenced to 12 months jail sentence suspended for two years. They both also received disqualification from driving for 18 months.
Our criminal defence team, who deal with motoring offences, say that this is the best outcome for Dealey as it was a first time offence and she is truly sorry for what happened. The reason Salem received a stiffer sentence is because he refused to own up to his part in the race.
These sentences could have a profound effect on the lives of the pair.
